The Datacryptor® SA is a cost-effective security solution designed
to protect legacy Supervisory
Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems that monitor and control the production, distribution, and delivery of
essential ser vice s and commodities such as electricity, gas, and water;
or control pipelines or railroads. The Thales Datacryptor SA is the first
commercially available product for SCADA networks. SCADA networks are
vulnerable to cyber attacks that can result in serious disruptions to
the availability and reliability of these vital services and the Nation’s
economy. The new SCADA encryption module addresses all relevant aspects
of an effective security policy without adversely impacting operational
processes and performance.
The Datacryptor SA security solution includes all administrative tools
needed to configure system components, key management services, and issuance
of access control tokens to authorized service personnel. Supporting
multi-drop, point-to-point and mixed-mode (secured and non-secured)
network configurations using serial asynchronous communication, the Datacryptor
SA solution can be deployed in a variety of operational scenarios compatible
with industry-standard communications from 300 bps through 115.2Kbps
and protocols such as MODBUS and DNP.
Since SCADA systems typically have useful lives of over 15 years, retrofit
solutions like the Datacryptor SA will play a key role in addressing
cyber security concerns of existing SCADA systems without affecting the
control system infrastructure in place, and without causing disruption
