Through its four divisions, The Antioch Company manufactures, packages and markets more than 3,000 products, including bookmarks, journals, diaries, photo albums and scrapbooks, wallet cards and book plates.
Founded in 1926, the company now employs more than 1,090 people and has operations in Ohio, Minnesota, Nevada, and Virginia. Antioch's products are sold through its tens of thousands of independent sales consultants and retail dealers worldwide.
The Antioch Company first deployed nCipher’s netHSM hardware security module (HSM) in June 2004 to enable it to comply with new Visa and MasterCard security requirements for credit card encryption. Steve Hawrysh, Senior Project Manager for The Antioch Company, explains, “It would not have been feasible to meet the card association regulations without the netHSM module; according to the mandate, we had to have the right hardware.”
In response to consumer demand for absolute protection of sensitive account information, the major Card Associations have developed data protection programs for members, merchants, and service providers. Visa’s Cardholder Information Security Program (CISP) and MasterCard’s Site Data Protection (SDP) program have been aligned into the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard, which outlines best practices for securing credit card data that is stored, processed or transmitted.
Offering nCipher’s highest level of cryptographic and application code protection, the sharable, network-attached netHSM is a highly secure device for the management of cryptographic keys and protection of sensitive applications. It can be deployed rapidly into most security infrastructures and rapidly integrated into
commercial and tailormade cryptographic applications, creating a trusted hardware perimeter for critical security processes.
When it came to selecting the right solution, potential vendors needed to fulfill a number of specific requirements. “Encryption performance was a very important consideration for us, as was the ability to network the solution,” comments Steve.
The nCipher netHSM solution was recommended to The Antioch Company by a third party consultancy working with the firm to help them comply with Visa requirements and, according to Steve, the ease of installation reassured them that they had made the right choice.
“nCipher came and helped us configure the solution onsite. We were very happy with what nCipher had done and the calibre of people they had brought out,” Steve says.
