SafeDial+

Windows NT Dial Up Networking (SafePort)

This example is based on configuring a Windows NT PC with a SafeDial+ in a SafePort attached to a Thales modem. These instructions assume that you have already installed the SafeDial+ 16 bit client.

Insert your SafeDial+ with the Thales modem attached into the SafePort, you should hear a two tone acknowledgment and after about 20 seconds the "dc" LED should go out.

Start the SafeDial+ client from the start menu (Start, Program, SafeDial, SafeDial Client)

You will be presented with the logon screen. Enter your password and tick the Minimize application on Successful Login box if it is not already ticked.

Assuming that your password is correct the application will minimize to the task bar. Depending on the version you are using you may get a message about maintaining the physical security of the SafeDial+. Once the application is minimized you can continue making the Dial Up connection.

Double click on My Computer and then click on Dial Up Networking

If you have no Dial Up Networking entries added you will see this message:

Click on OK to start the wizard.

If you do have existing Dial Up entries you will see this page:

Click on New to start the wizard.

The New Phonebook Entry wizard now runs (below). Give the Entry an appropriate name (SafeDial+ in this case) and enter the phone number of your RAS server. Remember to add a prefix number if required (9 in this case). Also ensure that the Dial Using box contains the SafeDial+ on the correct COM port. No other configuration of Dial Up Networking is necessary in most cases. You may, however, need to change some settings depending on the configuration of your RAS server. Click on OK to continue.

You will now be taken to the Dial screen:

Click on Dial to initiate the connection. You will be presented with the username/password confirmation dialogue - these are the credentials used to log on to the RAS server and is nothing to do with the SafeDial+ password.

Return to the start page...
