The example is based on configuring a Windows 2000 PC with a SafeDial+ in a SafePort attached to a Thales modem. These instructions assume that you have already installed the SafeDial+ and the SafeDial+ 16 bit client.

Insert your SafeDial+ with the Thales modem attached into the SafePort, you should hear a two tone acknowledgment and after about 20 seconds the "dc" LED should go out.

Start the SafeDial+ client from the start menu (Start, Program, SafeDial, SafeDial Client)

You will be presented with the logon screen. Enter your password and tick the Minimize application on Successful Login box if it is not already ticked.

Assuming that your password is correct the application will minimize to the task bar. Depending on the version you are using you may get a message about maintaining the physical security of the SafeDial+. Once the application is minimized you can continue making the Dial Up connection.

To start go to Start, Settings, Network and Dial Up Connections, Make New Connection. Follow the dialogues as below:

Click Next > to continue.

Leave the default selection of Dial-up to private network and click Next >

Enter the phone number of the RAS server you are dialling. Remember to include the relevant prefix if you need to access an outside line (9 in this case). Click Next > to continue.

Leave the default selection of For all users if appropriate. All this setting refers to is whether this connection appears in all user's Dial Up Connections on this PC. Click Next to continue.

Give the connection an appropriate name and click on Finish.

This screen now appears. Enter your user name and password in the appropriate box - these are the credentials you are using to connect to your remote RAS server (and is nothing to do with the password on your SafeDial+). Tick the Save password box if you want the password to be remembered.

Nothing else needs to be change here. The only other thing that you may need to change is on the Networking tab. By default when you make a Dial Up connection like this it will be set to obtain an IP address via DHCP - this is the usual manner of operation with RAS. If, however, you wish to use a static IP address then click on the Networking tab and then click on Properties to assign a static address. Click on OK to close this dialogue.
