Configuring the Thales modem or Multitech ZDX5600 modem when using PCMCIA

There are two modems which have been tested; the Thales modem and the Multitech ZDX5600. There is no configuration necessary when using these modems and they both work "out of the box". There is no real difference between the two modems except the cabling setup. One benefit of using the Multitech ZDX5600 is that it has an internal speaker which can be useful for diagnostic purposes. This document is written with a view to highlighting the difference between using a PCMCIA slot and a SafePort.

Configuring the SafeDial+

The Thales modem connects directly to the SafeDial+, the Multitech modem should be attached using the DB9 to DB25 serial cable and the DB9 to FCI 15 way connector supplied with the SafeDial+.

Insert the SafeDial+ with the modem attached into the SafePort. You should hear an acknowledgement tone from the PC. The SafeDial+ can now be used for dial up networking.
