Thales have tested two mobile
phones for use with the SafeDial+; the Nokia 6210e and the Nokia
6310i (they are very similar models and the configuration is identical).
This document explains how to setup the SafeDial+ and phone when
using a SafePort.

Nokia data cable |
Orange offer a service called HSCSD ( http://www.orange.co.uk/services/orange_high_speed.html
) which offers high speed data services over conventional GSM
networks. You need to have this enabled on the phone to get speeds
over 9600bps.
You will also need a Nokia 6210e/6310i data cable. This connects
to the interface on the bottom of the phone and terminates in a DB9
female connector which can then be attached to the DB9 male interface
of the cable which attaches to the SafeDial+.
Connect the phone to a COM port on your PC with the Nokia data cable.
Connect to the COM port with HyperTerminal with the following settings:
The Nokia 6210e has 3 different speeds - to set the relevant speed enter one
of the following commands:
| Command |
Meaning |
| AT+CBST? |
Query current setting |
| AT+CBST=0,0,1 |
9,600 to 28,800bps |
| AT+CBST=81,0,1 |
v.110 (9,600 to 42,300bps) |
| AT+CBST=51,0,1 |
v.120 (9,600 to 42,300bps) |
The setting you use is dependent on the speed you wish to connect
at, the settings on the remote device you are connecting to and also
the amount you will be charged by you service provider.
Next type the command AT&W1. This saves the above setting to
a profile 1.
Disconnect the Nokia data cable from the COM port and attach it
to your SafeDial+ using the DB9 to FCI 15 way cable.
Insert the SafeDial+ into the SafePort. Connect the SafePort to
your PC using the DB9 male to female serial cable.
Connect to the SafeDial+ via the appropriate COM port using HyperTerminal
with the following settings:

NB If you have changed the SafePort speed settings then you will
need to alter your connection speed accordingly.
Issue the command AT$SZ=Z1 - this tells the SafeDial+ to use profile
1 on the attached device.
Then issue the command AT$ZZ.
This completes the configuration of the SafeDial+ and Nokia phone
- you can then go ahead and create a dial up networking connection.
