SafeDial+

Configuring Windows NT Remote Access Server

This document describes how to configure the SafeDial+ with Windows NT4 remote access server (RAS). This document assumes that you are using a SafePort rack and some sort of COM port expansion device such as the Digi Etherlite or Comtrol and that these devices are already configured. This example uses Windows NT4 Server with Service Pack 6 installed. This document also assumes that you have the Remote Access service already installed.

Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Modems.

If you have other modems installed you will be presented with the list of modems. Click on Add to add a new modem. If you do not have any modems installed you will be taken straight to the add modem wizard:

Tick the Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list box and then click Next.

Click the Have Disk button:

Select the \inf directory on the CD (or another location where the MDMSD.inf file is stored). Click on OK.

Highlight the SafeDial V.34 and click on Next.

This screen allows you to select the COM port on which the SafeDial+ is installed - if you have multiple SafeDial+s you can install them at the same time (e.g. in this example we have two SafeDial+s on COM3 and COM4). Click on Next to continue.

Click on Finish to complete the installation.

You are now taken back to the modem list. Select the SafeDial V.34 from the list and click on Properties:

Click on Connection and then click on Advanced

Enter the initialisation string. The initialisation string logs the SafeDial+ on, sets the date and sets the encryption mode. The example here logs on with the password racal (at$ub<password>) and sets the date to 12:00 31 March 2003 (at$mqyymmddhhmmz) and sets the mode to encrypt (at$uc =encrypt, at$ua = clear, at$ua1 = auto). Also tick the Record a log file box, this is useful when troubleshooting problems. Click on OK to exit this screen. Repeat this configuration procedure for all SafeDial+s.

After you close the modem list window you will see the following message:
