| Commissioning is the process of
loading your key material onto the SafeDial+. This is an extremely
important aspect of security - if someone has access to your key material
then you can consider your system compromised. As such, your key material
should be used and stored in a secure manner. The process of commissioning
differs depending on whether you are using Commercial or UKG code.
Follow the flow chart below to be taken to the appropriate document.
UKG and Commercial SafeDial+
Whilst the functionality and behaviour of the two different
types of SafeDial+ are very similar, the process of supplying
and installing the key material is different. UKG key material
is supplied by CESG and can only be used with the appropriate
algorithm (Red Pike, Embattle etc.). Commercial key material
is supplied by Thales on the distribution CD. However, when using
Commercial SafeDial+ you should create your own key material
so that your SafeDial+s are part of a Closed User Group (follow
the link above for details of how to do this). If you do not
know whether you are using UKG or commercial query the SafeDial+
using the SafeDial+ client. In the "installed algorithm" section
it will say "3DES+" if it commercial. If it is UKG
it will say Embattle or Red Pike.
