Frequently Asked Questions

1. FAQ
Problem/ Question: Is there a simple way to reset a PCSM and clear the Local Master Key (LMK)?
Resolution/ Answer: Yes, use the utility RESETLMK.EXE in the C:PCSM directory. This re-initiates the default LMK and unlocks a PCSM ready for re-instatement. You may then download new code and install a new LMK.

2. FAQ
Problem/ Question: What does the Sport value at the bottom of the Toolkit screen mean?
Resolution/ Answer:

This is an interface port inside the PCSM and indicates the status of the PCSM itself. There are many different values of status that appear on this port during normal operation of the application software but only two that may be observed by the user of Toolkit. The two standard values that can be seen for Sport are:

  • 41 "The PCSM is operational and requires code download"
  • 81 "The PCSM is operational, it has had a code download and is waiting for a command from the security application"

Any other Sport values observed while in Toolkit for a persistent period of time indicate an error possible a PCSM failure.

7. FAQ
Problem/ Question: My PCSM gives error message "hardware error 0x86" after installation of the hardware into the PC.
Resolution/ Answer: When installing the RG7x0 software, make sure you add the IRQ details etc as they have been set on the PCSM. All details are on the sticker located next to the switches on the to of the PCSM. If they are not the same, or you are unsure what they should be, make a note of the settings on the PCSM hardware, and reinstall Toolkit.

8. FAQ
Problem/ Question: My PC will not see the PCSM at all....
Resolution/ Answer: Most new PC's will have a default settings whereby all IRQ's have been dedicated to the PCI/PnP slots - your PC will automatically reserve all IRQ's to be assigned by Plug and Play. Your PCSM will require a reserved IRQ. Most PC's offer the option to reserve an IRQ for ISA/Legacy equipment. Make sure that the IRQ in use by your PCSM is reserved for use by ISA/Legacy equipment.
