Thales e-Security is one of the worlds leading suppliers of hardware cryptographic
security. One of the critical factors in this success is the ability to
deliver professional services to customers involved in security projects.
These professional services include software design, development and project
management through to full integration, testing, hardware maintenance and
software support.
In addition to product supply and support, Thales e-Security has extensive
experience in providing turnkey solutions to financial institutions world-wide.
The ability and willingness of Thales e-Security to modify, enhance and
develop the Thales e-Security standard solutions to customer requirements
is often the critical factor in deciding to work with Thales e-Security.
Hardware cryptography is a specialized discipline, and skills and experience
in this area are often hard to find. Thales e-Security has teams of consultants,
systems analysts, development engineers and project managers who can
provide those skills when customers require them.
From providing simple introductions to hardware security through to developing
sophisticated multi-platform security subsystems, Thales e-Security is
capable of responding to diverse customer requirements.
Secure System Consulting
The Thales e-Security technical consultants
have a detailed and in-depth knowledge of Thales e-Security products.
Due
to the technical nature of the elements that make up a
security system Thales e-Security can provide consultancy either
at Thales e-Security
premises, or the customer’s premises, to assist with the design
and development of any system. Thales e-Security has a team of in-house
consultants and associates who can offer a range consultancy services
including the following:
• Security system design
• Security system review
• Security system specification
• Key management system design
• Operational security procedure specification
• Audit of cryptographic security systems
• Cryptographic security training
Thales e-Security can provide skilled security consultants to advise
on the best use of the products, including configuration and installation
issues, or to look at all areas of Communications or Transaction security,
especially when linked to our systems and products.
Pre-Sales Consulting
The Technical Consultants will work with customers once a requirement
has been identified and detailed technical support is needed. The consulting
is likely to include:
•
Answering customer questions to ensure that the proposed Thales e-Security
product meets all of the customer’s requirements
• Customer visits and workshops to establish requirements
• Technical presentations and product demonstrations of Thales e-Security
products
• Identifying areas where the Thales e-Security product does not meet the
requirement and work with the customer to establish
if a solution can be found. Typically solutions consist of enhancements to the
product,
alternative or additional products, or custom developments.
Training
Thales e-Security offers comprehensive
training on all the company’s
security products. The courses offered can be a mixture of
standard courses and courses tailored specifically for
the client. To
ensure that the
client receives the highest quality of training, instruction
is undertaken by technical specialists from within one of the
Thales e-Security Professional
Services Group. These specialists provide an in-depth knowledge
of the system, at the same time applying their experience of
unique
customer
requirements to answer questions.
Thales e-Security has a specially designed residential training center
in the UK and can offer local courses in Florida, Hong Kong and Melbourne
as well as other locations as desired.
Host Security Module Enhancement
Thales e-Security offers a development service for the
creation of enhanced versions of the Host Security
Module
(HSM) range. The HSM is supplied
with a large number of standard commands
that support functions such as ATM PIN verification,
Visa CVV management, Visa Cash,
Message Authentication & PIN
Mailer generation. However a customer of
Thales e-Security may find that their project
will require specialised commands
be added to
these standard commands. The customer
will define what is required from the
additional commands, and Thales e-Security
will then specify, design, implement and
test them. This is a very popular
service and helps
customers by removing the need for
advanced technical skills
that may be needed
for only a short part of their project.
Project Management
The project managers and developers at Thales e-Security’s
head quarters have considerable experience
of running prestigious projects
for internationally based companies. Organisations
such as VISA International and Amdahl, which are based
on the west coast
of America,
are supported
by the Long Crendon based business development
and technical support
teams.
The Project Managers are responsible for all of the development projects
undertaken at Thales e-Security, and project management is included
in all projects for customers.
For each project they control, the project manager will:
- Establish the development team
- Plan the development
- Guide the progress of the work
- Update the project plans as work
progresses
- Maintain reports on the status of the project
- Liaise with the
customer to keep them informed of development progress
- Generate
any change controls as a result of changes
in the requirement or technical issues that arise
- Ensure the deliverables are achieved
and are as the customer expects
- Close down the project
Application Engineering
The Thales e-Security Engineering Group can develop software solutions
that perform a complete customer cryptographic function at Client, Server
or Host. Often the development focus is on software that links Thales
hardware to the customer application via High Level APIs, providing simplified
interfaces that help reduce a projects timescales and costs.
