Thales, an international electronics and systems group serving
defense, aerospace, security and services markets today announced that the
Defense Information Systems Agency's (DISA) has selected Thales’ Datacryptor
SONET as one of its security devices. The deployment of the Datacryptor
SONET high speed Link Encryptor comes after extensive testing by DISA and
the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC). Under the deployment plan,
the units will begin to secure significant numbers of unclassified circuits
provisioned by the U.S. Government. This worldwide network provides a wide-range
of information services to U.S. Department of Defense users, including voice
telephony, data networking and video applications.
DISA continues to deploy the Thales Datacryptor products as network
bandwidth requirements increase. DISA has purchased and deployed low
speed (T1, T3,
E3) and high speed (SONET) encryption solutions from Thales. The Datacryptor
has significant advantages including price/performance, an easy to
use network Element Manager, and upgradeability from OC-3 thru OC-48
(2.4 Gbps).
"
We are committed to providing the Government agencies, in meeting their
long-term vision of network-centric operations with highly secure, reliable
Commercial-Off-The- Shelf (COTS) solutions" said Cindy Provin, President
of e-security activities in the Americas. Thales is the only vendor to offer
a complete range of layer 2 solutions ranging including low speed (56k)
bulk encryptors, 1Mb, T1/E1, T3/E3, Gigabit and SONET.
SONET is increasingly becoming the dominant transmission backbone for Sensitive
but Unclassified (SBU) government communications. Many federal agencies
and financial institutions are quickly moving to SONET for reliability and
low latency for voice, video and disaster recovery applications. Several
large financial institutions and this recent success with DISA solidify
Thales’ leadership position in High Speed SONET encryption.
About the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC)
JITC is the primary testing center for end-to-end functional assessments
of command, control, communications, computers and intelligence (C4I) systems
and networks. In most cases JITC must asses the solutions prior to deployment
in DoD network. JITC facilities are located at Fort Huachuca, Arizona and
Indian Head, Maryland.
About Datacryptor® products:
Thales’ Datacryptor® product line offers hardware-based FIPS 140-2
certified cryptography using the robust AES-256 algorithm for point-to-multipoint
encryption over layer 3 IP networks and bulk point-to-point encryption applications
over layer 2. Layer 2 encryption solutions provide point-to-point security
with virtually no latency or overhead. The Datacryptor products provide
a full range of solutions for layer 3 IP (10Mb, 100Mb and Gigabit) and layer
2 (56K-512K, Frame Relay, Gigabit, SONET OC-3, OC-12, and OC-48) network
connectivity.
About Thales
Thales is an international electronics and systems group, serving Defense,
Aerospace, Security and Services markets. The group employs 60,000
people and generated revenues of $12.6 billion in 2004.
Recent contract awards include the military’s multi-million dollar
Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) program award; and awards from the Defense
Information System Agency (DISA) for data encryption products.
Operating in three main markets covering e-security, card payment,
and network security, Thales’ e-Security activity addresses the business,
government, and finance industries’ need for cryptographic security
products and solutions. Over half of the world’s banks, together with
the majority of the busiest exchanges, currently use Thales technology.
